Wild Flor

Tucked away on Church Road in Hove, Wild Flor is the kind of place that makes you pause mid-bite and go, “Wait, this is really good.” It’s the sort of neighborhood restaurant that doesn’t scream for attention-but wins you over the moment you walk in. Warm, inviting, and quietly confident, this gem has quickly earned a name among food lovers in Brighton and beyond. Whether you're popping in for a long lunch or settling down solo with a glass of white and something slow-cooked, Wild Flor hits the spot.

Let’s talk about the menu-because that’s where things get really interesting. Seasonal and inventive, it reads like a love letter to modern European cooking with a British soul. One minute you’re savoring Cornish Crab with ginger, delicate and fresh, the next you’re slicing into rack of lamb that’s cooked to pink perfection. The duck breast? Crisp-skinned and rich. Pomme Anne and tortellini show up with flair, while cheese balls and Tarte Tatin arrive as guilty pleasures that don’t feel guilty at all.

There’s also something about the 35-year-matured cheese and oysters that lingers on your palate in the best way possible-bold, briny, indulgent. For those who lean toward land rather than sea, the veal, roast beef, and pork belly bring earthy depth and silky sauces that invite generous sips of wine.

Speaking of wine-Wild Flor’s wine list deserves its own spotlight. Carefully curated, it’s a treasure chest of organic, biodynamic, and low-intervention bottles that pair beautifully with just about everything on the menu. The champagne selection is nothing short of celebratory, and if you’re in the mood for a Negroni to kick things off, they mix a solid one. They also serve craft beer, cocktails, and a comforting cup of great coffee for those who want to ease into the evening or wind it down.

The space itself? Casual elegance. Wheelchair-accessible seating and a step-free entrance make it more inclusive, although there’s no dedicated accessible toilet or car park, which is something to keep in mind if needed. Still, the staff are friendly and incredibly accommodating-ready with suggestions or happy to chat about a particular bottle of white you’ve never tried before.

For the health-conscious or those with dietary preferences, Wild Flor quietly covers its bases. Vegan, vegetarian, and organic options are all part of the offerings-without ever feeling like an afterthought. Small plates mean you can graze or go full-on feast mode. Either way, there’s joy in every course.

It’s also worth noting that Wild Flor doesn’t do delivery-and honestly, that’s part of its charm. It invites you to slow down and dine-in, to be present in the moment, plate after plate. Whether you’re popping in alone on a quiet afternoon or booking a table for a special night out, this spot knows how to deliver atmosphere with authenticity.

Ultimately, if you’re searching for a refined yet relaxed dining experience in Brighton & Hove, Wild Flor serves up thoughtful cooking, an exceptional wine list, and a vibe that feels both elevated and deeply personal. Perfect for long lunches, intimate dinners, or even just a solo visit with a fork in one hand and a glass of white wine in the other.

Exceptional restaurant. The set menu was fantastic value. Decor is delightful, ingredients are fresh & the service was top notch. Our server has worked there for a few years and she was very knowledgeable on the menu items.

Had the spring 3 course menu for £25 which was great value, added oysters which were from Dorset, gorgeously plump and flavoursome. Delicious and interesting food combinations simply presented and unfussy. Highly recommend the Mutton sausage (pictured). Good service, nice warming interiors. Enjoyed the wines which were recommended. Very solid 4s across the board but lacked a bit of wow factor to push into the 5*

I heard this place was very good, and my expectations were high. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was very, very, very impressed! The place is beautiful, has a nice homey feeling, it is decorated with very good taste. The service is warm, friendly, competent, and genuinely caring. You can see that they love what they serve, and their smiles are not the prefabricated types of smiles that are fake and insincere. The food is excellent, and the wine list is great, plus it is priced very honestly for the quality of the wines they have. I am used to London prices and this sort of fine dining in London would probably be astronomically priced. I ordered the oysters to start with, then the Dexter tartare and the beans with peach, almond and lavender. Then I had the herb crusted hake with courgettes and raw prawns, a side of potatoes with seaweed and lemon, then the blackcurrant chicken ice and the peach dessert too. This was accompanied by a great Vinho Verde ( 2 glasses ) a perfect pairing suggested by the lovely staff. When the hake came I switched to another incredible wine, again, perfectly matched , a Chardonnay from Santa Barbara ( another 2 glasses) . The desserts were matched with a Riesling for the peach, and an Oloroso for the blackcurrant choc ice, both perfectly chosen by the fantastic staff on duty. This is definitely one of the best meals, if not The Best meal, I ever had in Brighton. Minor things I noticed that by no means detract from the skills of the chef were the lack of lavender taste in the salad of beans, peach, almond and lavender. I did not notice a hint of lavender, but the dish still tasted good and was fresh and delicious. The second thing I noticed was that in the blackcurrant choc ice there was a bit very subtle addition of honey, or honeycomb, possibly in the decoration on top of the chic ice. I am a big dessert person, and I do love cakes, ice creams, etc. But I am not a big fan of honey, and in this specific dessert, the blackcurrant choc ice, it was unnecessary. Still, if I had to rate this place from 1 to 100, I would give a solid 98. This is good that deserves a trip from London! I can’t wait to go back ! Thank you to all of you guys you were magnificent!

What an absolutely fantastic place to celebrate an anniversary! Wild Flor is just gorgeous - from the friendly greeting at the start of the evening, all the way through to settling the bill, we enjoyed every moment of our time here. The restaurant has a really calming, cosy ambience to it. The staff are so friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and they had even written us a card wishing us a happy anniversary!! So thoughtful There is an extensive wine list and a great selection of cocktails - we really enjoyed our glasses of the verdinho and rosé, and the Todoli Margarita we paired with our pudding was zesty, fresh and incredibly strong!! You have been warned The star of the show at Wild Flor is, of course, the food. We kicked off with the ink battered squid, which was expertly partnered with fennel, saffron, and blood orange. I haven’t had anything like this before - the combination was a bit mind-blowing!! All starters come with delicious sourdough bread and butter, too. We used ours to mop up the saffron sauce We chose the bavette steak and Chalk Stream trout for our mains, and shared the confit potato side dish, which was crispy and incredibly moreish. The steak was cooked to perfection. If I was being hyper-critical, I would say that the wilted spinach (which somehow seemed to have been cooked very well but still retained its crunch - impressive) was intensely garlic flavoured. I am a massive garlic fan, so not an issue - but even to me it was a little overpowering! My partner really enjoyed the Chalk Stream trout dish - I tried a piece and it was perfectly cooked. We finished up with the aforementioned Margarita and the limequat & coconut ‘key lime pie’. This pudding was sensational - creamy, zesty, and melt-in-the-mouth. We shared the pudding but I wish I had ordered my own one to be honest - I could have eaten 10 Thanks so much for a wonderful evening, Wild Flor - we can’t wait to come back and try many more menus!!
